It was such a pleasure to be among so many old friends who joined us this year – you are an example of the true power of connections and what can happen when a community stays together. We are also grateful for an opportunity to welcome new members to our PHC community of friends and colleagues and are looking forward to connecting with them deeper.

The Impact of COVID-19 Response Policies on Public Health Equity and Health Literacy
Dr. Scott Jensen is a physician and a former Senator of the State of Minnesota.
After Dr. Jensen completed his residency at Bethesda Hospital he opened his own medical practice, anchored in Watertown, with an office in his new hometown of Chaska. Over the years, he has put his inquisitive spirit to work for patients, working with them and asking questions in order to not only provide accurate diagnoses, but also to empower patients to take control of their own care.
In 2016, he was recognized by his peers and was named Family Physician of the Year by the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians. He also published his first book “Relationship Matters, The Foundation of Medical Care Is Fracturing”, which tells patient stories to emphasize the critical value of the patient-doctor relationship. The book expresses Dr. Jensen’s strong belief in the absolute need for patients to be their own “champion” for their health care decisions.
The Covid pandemic has pushed Dr. Jensen into the international spotlight. He has appeared on top rated shows and often been a lone voice calling for the measurement of the impact of government imposed draconian measures versus the impact of the virus. Scott has been a voice for the voiceless - tirelessly demanding peer review and updating of government models as facts emerged, transparency in the completion of death certificates, and recognition and calls to balance and measure the effects of lockdowns and closures.

Prof. Talya Miron-Shatz is an author, consultant, speaker, and researcher, who studies medical decision-making in a humanistic way, aiming to guarantee that people understand, and are genuinely part of, their care.
Dr. Miron-Shatz was the post-doctoral fellow of Nobel Laureate Daniel Kahneman at Princeton University, has and taught consumer behavior at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, alongside best-selling authors Jonah Berger and Adam Grant.
Dr. Miron-Shatz is a Full Professor and the founding director of the Center for Medical Decision Making in Israel’s Ono Academic College, as well as a senior fellow at the Center for Medicine in the Public Interest in New York, and a visiting researcher at the Winton Centre for Risk and Evidence Communication at Cambridge University.
Dr. Miron-Shatz has over 60 publications in top academic journals, including Psychological Science, Health Psychology, Medicine, and Emotion, as well as chapters in books published by Oxford University Press, MIT Press, Springer, and Wiley.

Dr. Tiffiny Shockley - Queens University, USA
Tiffiny Shockley is an experienced faculty member with expertise in Public Health, Healthcare Management, and Health IT. She is a member of HIMSS (Health Information Management Systems Society) and a member of the HIMSS global technology informatics TIGER taskforce with is charged with providing domain expertise, leadership, and guidance to activities, projects, and collaborations within the global health informatics community. She is the Lead Health Science faculty Member at Queens University of Charlotte. She is a s Certified Professional in Health Information Management (CPHIMS), a Certified Health Technology Specialist Clinician Practitioner Consultant (CHTS-CP), a Certified Professional of Electronic Health Records (CPEHR), a CDC Certified Lifestyle Diabetes Prevention Coach and a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES). Dr. Shockley holds a PhD in Public Health and an MBA with an emphasis on health services administration. She is an international keynote speaker, diversity expert and the author of "Blackness the Life and Times of an Unpopular People." |

Dr. Haironi Yusoff - University Malaysia Sarawak, Malaysia
Dr. Yusoff is a public health specialist, specializing in Health Promotion. She studied in Flinders University in South Australia and upon graduating, worked for Ministry of Health Malaysia as a houseman and medical officer. Haironi became a Hospital Director in Rajah Charles Brooke Memorial Hospital, which was a leprosy centre initially and she worked closely with the community to rehabilitate the patients back into the community. She then joined University Malaysia Sarawak when it was just starting its first intake of medical students. Hence, she was one of the pioneer batches that was involved in developing the medical curriculum. Dr. Yusoff has been involved in a lot of research, both as supervisor to undergraduate and post-graduate students and also conducted research on her own. Most of her research publications have been on children with special needs, cardiovascular diseases in the community, malaria, leprosy, obesity among children in the community and various other infectious diseases in the community. Haironi is an active member of Dyslexia Association of Sarawak, Public Health Association in Malaysia and various other non-profit organizations. In addition, she is a Council member for Certification of Healthcare Facility Managers, Malaysia, to help facility managers and engineers working in hospitals enhance their knowledge in hospital support services. Haironi is fortunate to be working in Sarawak with its diverse community (Malays, Ibans, Melanaus, Chinese and other indigenous groups) and had the opportunity to travel to the rural areas including joining the flying doctor service, using boat ambulance to transfer patients and learning to deliver health in the most basic environment. The healthcare system has improved extensively now and that has allowed Dr. Yusoff to share with the medical students on its advancement. |

Prof. Emre Mumcu - Eskisehir Osmangazi University, Turkey
Prof. Mumcu graduated from Istanbul University School of Dentistry in the years 1993 and 1998, respectively. He got my PhD degree with the dissertation titled as "Electromyographic Assessment of the effects of Stabilization and Anterior Repositioning Splints on Masticatory Muscles in Disc Displacements with Reduction Therapies” from Istanbul University Faculty of Dentistry Department of Prosthodontics. Prof. Mumcu completed his military service from 2007-2008 at Gulhane Military Medical Academy of Dental Sciences Center located in Ankara. In 2012, he moved to Eskisehir starting as a faculty member at Eskişehir Osmangazi University School of Dentistry as a Prof. Dr. Some of his administrative services at current institution since 2012 are listed below: Coordinator of Education at School of Dentistry (2012-2013) Vice Chair for Clinical Sciences (2012-2013) Vice-Dean of School of Dentistry (2012-2013) Eskisehir Osmangazi University Senator ( 2018 - Chief of Department of Prosthodontics (2012- 2021) His articles were published in international peer-reviewed journals, which were cited over 1200 times. Prof. Mumcu delivered over 50 presentations in international conferences and symposiums. |

Dr. Tai Wa Liu - The Open University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong
Dr. Liu Tai Wa received his psychiatric nursing training in Hong Kong. Since then, he further pursued a MSoSci (Counselling) at The Hong Kong University and a MNursing at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He earned his PhD from the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Dr. Liu joined The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) in 2010 after over 10 years of psychiatric nursing services in both inpatient and community settings. His work is characterized by promoting the recovery and community integration of people with mental health issues. He was appointed Senior Lecturer in 2015 and promoted to Associate Professor of School of Nursing and Health Studies, OUHK in 2021. Dr Liu’s research focuses on developing and applying interventions with the use of cognitive-based intervention and physical exercise on people with chronic and disabling diseases. He has published numerous papers and book chapter in the field of rehabilitation. One of his research paper was awarded the Outstanding Research Publication Award (Silver Prize) by the Katie Shu Sui Pui Charitable Trust in 2019. |

Dr. Rakesh Bhooshan Sharma - Department of Medical Health and Family Welfare, UP Government of India, India
Dr. Rakesh Bhooshan Sharma holds a double PhD (PhD Community Medicine, PhD Environmental Science -Epidemiology) and has an extensive experience both as a Scholar and Medical officer. Dr. Sharma presented his research at a number of international and national conferences. His areas of expertise include: Public Health Environmental Health/Epidemiology Environmental Therapy Research Methods Community Medicine/Family Medicine Ayurveda and Panchkarma Research Supervision and research project writing Management of chronic communicable and non-communicable diseases Combined therapy Ayurveda and Modern Medicine Immunomodulation Clinical and Environmental epidemiology |

Prof. Amâncio Carvalho - University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro - Health School, Portugal
Amâncio is currently Coordinating Professor at ESS - UTAD, teaching content in the area of Community Nursing/Public Health (Specialty Area), Health Education, Health Literacy, Obesity Prevention and Psychoactive Substance Use. Prof. Carvalho holds Doctorate in Child Studies, with Specialization in Child Health from the University of Minho. He published articles in international and national journals and is co-author of a book in the area of Health Education. His research interests are in the area of Public Health in general, Health Promotion/ Health Education, Health Literacy, consumption of psychoactive substances, oral health and obesity prevention. |

Dr. Margaret Trey - Sibubooks, USA
Sarawak-born Australian Dr. Margaret Trey lives in scenic Mid-Hudson region north of New York City. Inspired by her late author granduncle, she majored in English at The University of Toronto and later completed counselor training, including the Doctor of counseling degree, at the University of South Australia. Dr. Trey’s upbringing profoundly impacted her affinity for traditional culture. Her maternal grandfather was a 19th century-born Taoist cultivator, healer, and physician. From her mother, who passed away at 103 years old, Dr. Trey learned the spirit and wisdom of traditional Chinese culture. An inherent respect for antiquated wisdom inspired Dr. Trey to train in oriental medicine, Zen shiatsu, Indian and Japanese yoga, the yin-yang of foods, and Vipassana meditation—before she began practicing Falun Gong in 1997. Her family lineage and belief in mind-body-spiritual approach have enthused Dr. Trey’s integrated approach towards helping others. She creates ripples—of hope and positivity—through speaking at various events and international conferences in Australia, Canada, Singapore, Thailand, and the United States, as well as through her writings. Counselor, researcher, speaker, and author of two books on the effects of Falun Gong, Dr. Trey is currently working on her third project, an edited book on the Link between Falun Gong and Health–the Belief Factor. |
